Agius Farms choose HARDI cannon19 April 2012
Lettuce is one of the most popular salad vegetable we eat and dates back to the 5th century BC. After 2000 years of development we get to enjoy the crispiest, sweetest and best tasting lettuce all year round.
Producing high quality lettuce is a full time job for Daniel Agius who manages Agius Farms a lettuce growing operation 30 km from the Sydney CBD in Kellyville. Daniel believes growing healthy quality lettuce is all about good crop management and in which there are no short cuts.
“We grow our lettuce above ground hydroponically which is a faster cleaner way to produce a premium quality product” said Daniel. “We know our consumers enjoy our lettuce but we have to be careful that pest and disease don’t get to enjoy it as well, so we have to protect our crop”.
Recently Daniel purchased a new HARDI ZENIT Cannon through Semco Equipment in St Marys to take care of his lettuce spraying and application needs.
“Because we are spraying inside a structure the Cannon is the most ideal method of application for us. We drive up and down each end of the raised trays and the Cannon easily throws the spray 15 metres over the crop to the centre without the need for a boom” Daniel explained.
“The ZENIT Cannon gives us the performance, coverage and control we need to prevent pest and disease outbreak and we are very happy with the machine. The results achieved from this sprayer have been fantastic” he said.
Agius Farms location meant Daniel needed a sprayer that is quiet and the ZENIT Cannon is just that. “I’m able to spray early in the morning and not wake up the neighbourhood’ said Daniel.
“The ZENIT Cannon with its 600 litre main tank gives me the capacity to spray our lettuce a lot quicker with less fill ups than before. We like the Cannon flexibility with its hydraulically operated spout can quickly change the direction of the spray to suit our setup’ he continued.
“The ZENIT Cannon is a proven performer and is designed to be adjusted to suit individual requirements’ said David Soderstrom from HARDI Australia. ‘The ZENIT fan design takes very little horsepower to drive, has a very low noise signature making it efficient to run and less of an environmental disturbance than other brands.”
